A Clam-orous couple step by step tutorial
A step by step photo tutorial to assist in the making of the Clam-orous couple projects, pattern available here.
Transfer the design and complete the embroidery panels. Cut out on the outer lines which are not stitched. Follow the instructions to fuse the circle to the back of the small one, and to turn the seam allowances over.
*Cut out both Template A and B on the outer lines. To cut your bag pieces layer the outer fabric right side up – bag batting and lining fabric right side down evenly. Spray baste the outer fabric to the foam piece.
Lay the template on the top side and using a water soluble pen mark around the outer edge. Flip the template and trace the other side. Use this method for both size pouches.
Mark a line across from point to point where the fold line will be. (You can do this before or after you cut the outer template shape)
For the large pouch place your completed stitchery panel wrong sides together so that the bottom straight raw seam sits 1/4" past the straight line.
Stitch along the marked line from edge to edge of the embroidery panel. Press the panel upwards and applique by hand or machine the curved edges.
Cut out carefully through all three layers at once – I used a small rotary cutter for long cuts and then scissors to cut out the centre sections.
For the small pouch you will mark the line but applique the complete EPP piece on by hand or machine.

Zipper: Make small snips (1/8" only) along both sides of zipper tape. Place the zip right sides together with outer fabric panel. Using a ¼” foot machine stitch around the curved edge.
Fold the panel in half to match the start point for the other side. Separate the halves to make it easier to attach.
Place the lining panel right sides together and stitch with a 1/4" seam with the zipper in between. Turn through and press well. Edge stitch both curved ends.
Tabs & Binding: Fold 4” pieces in half and half again. Edge stitch both sides. Baste into place even with the zipper tape. Stitch across with a ¼” seam. Bind the raw edges to complete!
