Simply Seduction step by step tutorial

For those of you who are visual learners this tutorial supports the making of the Simply Seduction rice bag. The pattern can be found here

Please note images below in the tute are from two different test bags - so may not be the same fabrics. Thankyou to Anne for testing the pattern, making her beautiful version and taking step by step pics for me to use.

Fuse 24 of the included EPP iron on diamond papers to the wrong side of your chosen fabrics. Our kits are cut to have 3 on each fabric.

Glue and prep the diamonds as per the instructions.

Fuse the remaining two diamond papers to your tab fabrics and glue over the edges. Put aside for later.

Place a background strip on one end of the fusible batting strip on the fuse side.  Place a second strip right sides together on top and stitch a ¼” seam down the right edge. Press open the top strip. Repeat this process with all 16 strips with the final strip meeting the other end of the batting. (you may need to use scant ¼” seams as the batting will take up some of the fabric and you may not get the full 24 ½” length – if too long, just trim to size).

Fold the strip in half and finger press the horizontal fold to find the centre. Position the prepared diamonds following the diagram using the pieced seams to line up the tips of the diamonds. Do not position the first row of two diamonds, these will be added once the panel is sewn into a tube. Use Roxannes glue to baste all diamonds into position.

Applique into place by hand or machine

Stitch a hand quilting stitch around the centre row of diamonds if desired using a HNK stitchery needle and perle thread or 2 strands of a floss. Or  by machine using a blending thread.

Fold the strip in half wrong sides together and stitch into a tube – Press the seam open.  Attach the remaining two diamonds and complete any quilting.

Mark with a water erasable pen the following points along your lining tube. ¼”, 3”, 3”, 3”, 3”, 3”, 3”, 3”, 3”, ¼”.

Stitch the lining strip into a tube with a ¼” seam allowance leaving a 2” opening for turning later.

Attach the lining base to the lining tube. Begin at a corner of the Octagon ¼” in from a corner point. Stitch to the ¼” mark of the next corner, with needle down, pivot and stitch the next straight edge. Repeat until you get back to the starting point. Each of your 3” marks should be at a point of your octagon base

Spray baste the foam Template B to the outer bag base fabric. The foam will be a ¼” smaller on all sides. Quilt through both layers – I just quilted across the octagon from point to point. You could also quilt a grid pattern.

Attach the outer bag tube to the outer base in the same way as the lining but using your vertical seam lines to line up at each corner point.

Tabs: Join the two tab strips right sides together by stitching down both long edges. Turn through to the right side and press so that the seams are centred on one side and the wider strip shows as a small edge on both sides. Cut into the 8 equal tabs and fold in half.

Fold your outer bag one side at a time at a corner of the octagon base. Mark the corner at the top edge. This should be a seam line. Position a tab with raw edges even at the top in the centre of each side. Pin or klip to hold. Machine baste into place.

With the lining bag inside out place the outer bag inside the lining bag. Match all top corners (your marked 3” points and seam lines).

Stitch around the top edge of the bag. Turn through the opening in the lining base and press all seams out well. Slip stitch the opening closed.

Push the lining into the bag and smooth out well. Stitch a row of stitching 1/8” from the top edge of the bag.

Fold cord strips right sides together and stitch along long edge. Use a turning tool to turn the tube through to the right side. Turn the seam to the centre of one side and press flat.

Thread one through all loops and back to the start point. Pin the ends together. Thread the other cord starting at the opposite side of the bag and again pin.

Fuse the final two EPP diamonds to a tab fabric. Glue over the edges and fold in half wrong sides together to form a folded triangle. Place the triangle over the ends of the cord and whip stitch the open sides securing the cords inside the triangle. Repeat for the other cord ends.

and your bag is complete!
